Key information
What travels with a consignment
Each of these is a specific data point attached to a specific lot, and each is provable from a document. A traceability claim without a lot number is a statement of intent.
| Lot number | The anchor everything else attaches to. |
|---|---|
| Production date | When the product was made. |
| Catch or harvest date | When it came out of the water. |
| Establishment number | M343 — identifies our plant on export health certificates. |
| FAO fishing area | FAO 27 for Norwegian wild catches, with sub-area where relevant. |
| Vessel or farm site | Identified per lot. |
| Gear or production method | Longline, gillnet, danish seine, trawl, pot — or marine net pen grow-out. |
Chain of custody
Certified separation from raw material to customer
A Chain of Custody certificate shows that we can keep certified and non-certified material separate and trace it through the operation.
How it works
From catch or harvest to finished product
The lot number is set at the start and carried through. Each step adds a record against it rather than starting a new one.
-
01
Raw material
Catch or harvest date, vessel or farm site, gear or production method.
-
02
Processing
The lot number follows the product through production, under approval M343.
-
03
Packing
The lot is identified on the pack and on the packing list.
-
04
Documentation
Health and catch certificates and the packing list, requested at order.
Traceability in practice
Documentation and labelling
Documentation requested in the purchase order arrives with the goods. Requested on arrival it is a reconstruction — and for catch certificates in particular, difficult or impossible to produce after the fact.
